About ODYSSEA

Born from a shared passion for comics, mermaids, and everything Aquapunk, Odyssea is a project where imagination and curiosity swelled into something bigger than expected. What began as a playful exploration of underwater mythology and dystopian worlds became a fully realised graphic novel—dark, humorous, atmospheric, and deeply human, even when its characters are not. This book is the result of countless sketches, conversations, and creative sparks, all flowing together into a story that feels as strange as it is familiar.

The story

Odyssea is an Aquapunk graphic novel exploring themes of dualism and identity—told through the eyes of a depressed mermaid.

The universe centres around the beach-side city known as The City-Upon-Sea. This deteriorating coastal metropolis is hot, humid, stifling, and socially neglected. Unbeknownst to the humans living there, hidden deep beneath the waves lies its mirror: The City-Below-Sea, a forgotten world preserving a forgotten species.

The protagonist, Odyssea, is a mermaid who abandons the solitude and darkness of her underwater life to live among the humans she despises—forcing her to question every aspect of her existence.

Befriended and protected by an immortal fisherman, Odyssea learns of humanity’s impending fate, and of her supposed role in saving them. Unamused and uninterested, she chooses instead to “bury her head in the sand,” rejecting destiny in favor of freedom. But her new life above the water is thrown into turmoil when she encounters a human with a very different kind of power…

“Sharp, funny, melancholy, and visually stunning. Odyssea is the mermaid story I didn’t know I needed.”

“A beautiful exploration of dualism: light and dark, sea and land, isolation and connection. The themes of friendship, acceptance, and mortality resonated long after I turned the last page. It’s not just a graphic novel—it’s an emotional discovery.”

— Rowan Pierce

“Odyssea weaves big ideas—identity, freedom, responsibility—into a story that feels intimate and deeply human. It made me think about what we choose to run from, what we choose to face, and who we become in the process. Can highly recommend it!”
